Park of Remembrance, “Garden of the Righteous”

The Park of Remembrance in Torricella Peligna, with the Angel of Victory and the Civic Tower are three exceptional monuments not to forget anyone who sacrificed their life during the wars to make Italy free and more democratic. Torricella shall not forget its brothers, it rather honors them every day, and one by one. the provincial road to Fallascoso separates the pinewood with its solemn Angel of Peace, and the Park of Remembrance, which is the “Garden of the Righteous” of Torricella Peligna. Each pine carries the name of a fallen in war, no one excluded, not even those missing on the Russian front or on Carso during World War I and II. There are also the patriots of Brigata Maiella and some civilians who honored their native town over the battle-fields. They are all there!

The Park of Remembrance was inaugurated in 1964 by the Municipality of Torricella Peligna together with the Italian Alpine trooper. “Not to forget”, as the memorial stone reminds everyone. The Italian Alpine troops have always made an integral part of social life in Torricella. The vocation to alpinism is deeply rooted and comes from an innate love for mountains and an inborn sense of solidarity, so much so that they have always actively helped in dramatic events like floods, earthquakes, not only in Italy but also abroad,  for example when they aided the Albanian population during the war.

It is exactly in the Park of Remembrance that the Alpine troopers of Torricella built a monument church in 2000, which is the seat of the group and where religious and patriotic feasts are celebrated, and where silence invites not to forget the glorious fallen of the wars.
